A man, identified as Charles Luiz Félix da Costa, was arrested in flagrante delicto on the morning of Thursday (25) after killing his own daughter, a 5-day-old newborn, with pellets. The case took place at the family’s home in Boa Viagem, in the South Zone of Recife.

According to the investigation, the father gave the baby a bottle of milk with pellets on Tuesday night (23). The pellet is a poison used to kill rats. Its sale was banned in Brazil in 2012.

The child was rescued by her mother, who took her to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) of Imbiribeira, in the same region where the family lived, but suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and did not resist.

After the arrest, the man was taken to the Department of Homicide and Protection of the Person (DHPP), in the Cordeiro neighborhood, in the West Zone of Recife. He was charged with consummated homicide and was available to the Justice to undergo a custody hearing.

The arrest in flagrante delicto was converted into preventive detention in a custody hearing on Thursday morning, according to the Court of Justice of Pernambuco (TJPE).
