On Saturday morning (3), Ricardo Nunes was confirmed by the MDB as an official candidate for the City Hall of São Paulo, with Ricardo de Mello Araújo (PL), former commander of Rota and former president of Ceagesp, as vice president on the ticket for the municipal elections this year. The confirmation was made with former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) on stage.

The candidacy was made official at a convention at the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Alesp). In addition to Bolsonaro and Tarcísio, the event was attended by Michelle Bolsonaro, Michel Temer, Gilberto Kassab (PSD), Valdemar Costa Neto (PL) and other politicians.

Nunes has the support of 12 parties to compete in the municipal election. They are:

  • MDB
  • PL
  • PP
  • PSD
  • We Can
  • Act
  • Solidarity
  • Union Brazil
  • Republicans
  • Avante
  • PRD
  • Mobilizes.

“My heart is beating fast at this event of democracy. The most important moment of my political life. I am very proud to be mayor. I want to thank you very much for the opportunity to be able to be mayor for more than four years. At this moment, I wanted to remind each of you that, above all, I am Ricardo, a person just like each one of you,” Nunes said at the time.

In his speech, the current mayor of the capital of São Paulo criticized the PSOL and Guilherme Boulos, affiliated with the acronym and also a candidate for the City of São Paulo.

“Despite our differences, what unites us is the danger that the PSOL represents for our city, against the people of São Paulo, the fifth largest metropolis in the world. What unites us, above any difference, is the threat of seeing the figure, like Guilherme Boulos, of being mayor of São Paulo, the same Boulos who was invading the Ministry of Finance, vandalizing Fiesp, which was boycotting the World Cup, boycotting our national team and his own country. We don’t want that. We want work, housing, education. We want peace and development,” he said.
