Can high-performance athletes undergo aesthetic procedures?

Well, athletes are not exactly prohibited from performing procedures, but postoperative care becomes even more essential. The relationship between training and results varies greatly according to the procedure performed.

For example, plastic surgeon, professor at Unifesp and International Scientific Director of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP) Fabio Nahas explains that intense physical activity does not affect the result of liposuction. Therefore, patients can return to training 30 days after surgery. On the other hand, mammoplasties require the patient to follow medical recommendations to the letter, as physical exercises strongly impact the final appearance.

In people who have had breast dentures placed, the constant impact can put the dentures down. In patients who have repositioned their breast tissues, what can happen are changes in these tissues. To avoid any of these situations, Fabio suggests using bras or tops with high support.

Finally, in minor aesthetic procedures, such as the application of botox or hyaluronic acid, intense exercises can shorten the duration of the effect obtained, but it does not have very considerable consequences. In these cases, the specialist in advanced aesthetics Dr. Angélica Lucena indicates a 24-hour rest before returning to training.

“I indicate, after a procedure, whether it is harmonization, rhinomodeling, lip filling, etc., a 24-hour rest, without any physical effort, since swelling can compress the region and lead to complications”, explained the doctor.

There are even situations in which procedures that improve sports performance, such as reduction mammoplasty. Therefore, it is evident that good results can be obtained by these operations even in people who train intensely. And it is worth remembering that aesthetics and physical exercise are two related things! And of course, the most important thing is to take care of your body.
