An international flight that departed from Miami to Fortaleza, Ceará, had to be diverted and made an unscheduled stop in Belém due to the behavior of a passenger. The situation was revealed by the Federal Police on Monday (5).

The incident occurred on Saturday (3), when the man, visibly intoxicated, began to cause problems shortly after takeoff. According to flight attendants, he removed his seat belt, cursed at the crew and urinated on the bathroom floor. In addition, the passenger slapped his wife during the flight.

After receiving instructions to behave, at the risk of being removed from the aircraft by the Federal Police upon landing, the man threatened a death commissioner. As a result, it was moved to the back of the plane to reduce the turmoil. The airline recorded the incident, reporting that the passenger was intoxicated, made hate speech and death threats, and exhibited aggressive and homophobic behavior.

After being removed from the plane, the man was charged with assault, threat, racial slur, psychological violence and attack against air transport safety. He was sent to the Penal System. The wife remained in Belém to be heard by the Federal Police and continued her trip later. After the stop in Belém, the aircraft continued to Fortaleza.
