Alain Delon, French film star, died at the age of 88 this Sunday (18). The news was confirmed by the artist’s family in a statement to the AFP news agency. The cause of death has not yet been revealed, however, Delon’s relationship with euthanasia draws attention due to his statements in life.
Anthony Delon, son of the French heartthrob, revealed in 2022 that his father had the desire to use euthanasia. The practice, carried out by doctors, consists of applying a dose of a lethal drug to the patient. However, after his death, relatives did not confirm whether the star’s death was due to the procedure.
In 2019, Delon suffered a stroke (2019) and, after the event, he said he wanted to undergo euthanasia. His position became more present after following the suffering of Nathalie Delon, the artist’s wife, who died due to pancreatic cancer and had the desire to perform the practice.
Repercussion of the actor’s death in France
Emmanuel Macron, president of France, mourned the actor’s death on Sunday (18). In a message posted on X, formerly Twitter, the politician lamented the death of Anthony Delon.
“Alain Delon played legendary roles and made the world dream. Lending his unforgettable face to shake our lives. Melancholy, popular, reserved, he was more than a star: he was a French monument,” he said.
Macron’s rival, Marine Le Pen, also spoke out after the incident. “The legend is gone. Alain Delon leaves us orphans of the golden age of French cinema that he embodied so well. It’s a small part of France that we love and that goes away with him,” he said.
