Italian prosecutor investigates luxury yacht wreck as manslaughter

An Italian prosecutor has opened an investigation for manslaughter (without intent to kill) and negligent sinking for the death of British tech tycoon, Mike Lynch, and six other people after the luxury yacht sank in Italy last Monday (19).

The head of the Termini Imerese public prosecutor’s office, Ambrogio Cartosio, announced the measure at a press conference. According to Imerese, the investigation does not target any specific person so far.

What happened

Seven people died in the sinking of the English superyacht “Bayesian”, which sank in Palermo, Italy, after being hit by a tornado last Monday (19).

The accident occurred with 22 people on board. Among the dead are tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah Lynch.

Lynch’s wife, whose company owned the Bayesian, and the yacht’s captain are among the survivors.
