The Israeli government bombed southern Lebanon in the early hours of Sunday (25) after detecting preparations for the Hezbollah, Iran’s paramilitary group, for launching “large-scale” missiles towards Israel.
The Israeli army issued a warning for the inhabitants of the southern region of Lebanon to leave their homes immediately. The agency said it was “monitoring Hezbollah’s preparations to carry out major attacks on Israeli territory near their homes,” according to information from the AFP news agency.
Shortly thereafter, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari said that the country was preparing for the terrorist group to carry out an attack, which was confirmed early in the morning: about 210 rockets and 20 drones were launched from Lebanon towards northern Israel, according to information from the IDF.
According to a Hezbollah statement, Sunday’s attacks come in retaliation for the assassination of its top commander, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut last month during an Israeli bombardment.
The attack extremist group said this was the “first phase” of the response to Shukru’s death and that full action would take time. According to Israeli emergency services, no one was injured.
