Botafogo officially announced on Thursday the signing of 26-year-old goalkeeper Raul Steffens, who was a standout for São Luiz in the Campeonato Gaúcho. He has signed a contract valid until the end of December next year.

Initially, the goalkeeper from Rio Grande do Sul will arrive at the club to compete with Gatito Fernández, John (currently injured) and the youngsters Igo Gabriel and Lucas Barreto. According to “GE”, Raul had been monitored by the club’s scouting department for some time before being signed.

The 26-year-old was revealed by Juventude and made his professional debut for the club in 2017. After that, he played for Cianorte-PR, Cascavel-PR, Aimoré-RS, CSA, Novo Hamburgo-RS, Criciúma and Barra-SC before arriving at São Luiz. Where he stood out, being one of those responsible for the team’s defensive solidity in this Gauchão, the team from Ijuí has the third best defense in the competition, alongside Juventude, with only 9 goals conceded. Only behind Brasil de Pelotas (with eight) and Internacional (with seven).

Raul’s name has already appeared on the BID, so the 26-year-old can make his debut for Botafogo this Sunday, in a match against Sampaio Corrêa, valid for the Rio Cup, at 16h.
