John Textor, owner of Botafogo, promises to reveal alleged irregularities in the 2023 Brasileirão within a month. Among the accusations would be “recorded judges complaining about not having their bribes paid”, “manipulation” and “mistakes”.

The revelation was made to the newspaper O Globo. The American businessman assured that he has proof and that he will make it public.

– Someone says that there is no corruption in Brazil, when I have recorded judges complaining about not having their bribes paid (…) Because it’s a battle against external factors. It’s a battle that exists and is here. There were manipulations and mistakes in 2021, 2022, 2023, and we have proof – he fired.

Textor tried to exonerate the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and its president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, but raised the tone of his criticism of the national soccer governing body.

– Maybe the CBF shouldn’t sue me. I didn’t accuse Ednaldo. I never said anything about him. He’s not corrupt. He’s a man who runs an organization that probably needs to manage external corruption better – he pondered.

Proof within 30 days

Botafogo led much of the 2023 Brazilian Championship, opening up a big lead over the other clubs. However, a series of bad results, especially defeats and draws in the final minutes of matches, contributed to the team’s drop in performance.

John Textor tried to explain the feeling of frustration during the final phase of the tournament, promising to reveal the material he has in hand within 30 days.

– In the last games of last year, the hatred was so strong that it was very difficult for us to watch. It can’t be like that. We’re not going to win championships like this. And the fans will find out in the next 30 days what really happened in the championship – he promised.
