Midfielder Luana Bertolucci, of the Brazilian national team and Orlando Pride, took to social media on Monday (29) to inform that she has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer in the lymphatic system. In the statement, the athlete also says that she will begin chemotherapy treatment.

“As a professional athlete, I’ve been through a lot of challenges on and off the field. I have always faced everything with courage and determination and this time will be no different. After undergoing detailed examinations over the past few weeks, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I will undergo chemotherapy treatment and I count on your support and prayers. I also want to thank the support of my family and friends who have strengthened me at this time. I thank the Brazilian national team and also Orlando Pride for their unconditional support. I also ask for respect for my privacy at this time. Let’s go together,” Luana wrote.

The player was present at the last call of the National Team, made by coach Arthur Elias, for the “She Believes Cup”, which took place this April, but ended up having to leave the group at the time.

“We fought our battles together, on and off the field, and Orlando Pride athletes and staff will stand side by side with Luana and united in our support for her throughout this process,” said Haley Carter, the North American club’s official.
