After being announced by Real Madrid, French star Kylian Mbappé said at a press conference that he had been “boycotted” at the club. According to the player, he “would never have set foot at the club again if it wasn’t for  Luis Enrique (PSG coach and Luis Campos) (director of football).

The statement did not go down well with PSG, who hit back at the athlete in a statement sent to AFP. The French club regretted the foul and stated that the striker “lacks class”. “Nasser Al-Khelaifi (the club’s owner) never determined any decision of the team. Luis Enrique even spoke about it, but despite everything, Mbappe says something and everyone takes him as the absolute truth,” PSG said.

Since announcing that he would leave the team at the end of the season, Mbappe’s relationship with the president has frayed. In the player’s farewell video, Nasser Al-Khelaifi was not even remembered by the striker, which angered the president.

During the interview, the player said that the club’s board made him understand that he would no longer play for the team. “They made me understand that I wouldn’t play for Paris anymore. They said it to my face, with a certain harshness, and through the press. Luis Enrique and Luis Campos were the ones who saved me. I wouldn’t have set foot on the pitch without them, and I’ve always had recognition from both of them. Playing was a source of great pride,” said the star.

Mbappe signed a five-year deal with Real Madrid earlier this week and is expected to be unveiled after the Euros.
