A tragedy shook Italian sport on Tuesday (04). Skier Jean Daniel Pession, who competed for Italy in the Ski World Cup in 2020, died along with his girlfriend, Elisa Arlian. The couple fell from a 700-meter mountain in the Aosta Valley, located in the northwest of the European country. The deaths of Jean and Elisa were confirmed by the Italian Winter Sports Federation.
According to Italian media reports, the bodies of the skiers were found shortly after the athletes were reported missing. The cell phone signal of one of the two eventually made it possible for them to be found, buried in the snow.
According to Italian media outlets, Jean and Elisa were tied to each other when their bodies were recovered.
Jean was 28 years old and had been working as a ski instructor in recent years, just like his girlfriend.
In a statement, the Italian Winter Sports Federation has spoken out about the deaths of Jean Daniel Pession and Elisa Arlian. “We express our condolences to the families for this unfortunate tragedy,” it wrote.
