Photographer Maurício Amorim filmed the passage of two humpback whales by Ilhabela, on the North Coast of São Paulo, on the morning of this Saturday (15). In the video, the animals are seen swimming near the surface. The images were shared by the professional on his social network. Check it out below.

This is not the first record of humpback whales this season. Throughout this week, the Whale in Sight project also recorded moments when the animals pass through Ilhabela.

According to experts, between June and July, the appearance of whales on the coast of São Paulo is usually more frequent. This is because they leave the Antarctic region during our summer and go to the Northeast to breed in warmer waters.

Known for their large size, humpbacks are usually more than 16 meters long and weigh about 40 tons. They are not considered aggressive, but there are a number of guidelines for not approaching them.

In the middle of last year, it is worth remembering, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was even fined for “harassing” a humpback on the coast of São Paulo. After investigation, however, the Federal Police decided not to open an investigation against the politician.
