Missing for the team’s next match, against the Netherlands, Kylian Mbappé remains a doubt in France. On Wednesday (19), defender Saliba and midfielder Rabiot spoke about the situation of the number 10 during a press conference.
The defender wanted to reassure the fans and said that the player was improving.
“When I met him this morning, he was a little better. He went to do other tests, I don’t know anymore. But the good news is that when I saw him he was better,” he said.
Rabiot, on the other hand, emphasized the uncertainty over Mbappe’s future at this Euros, but stressed that the squad has pieces to replace him.
“I understood that Kylian was uncertain and was not yet absent. This is not yet confirmed. It’s a hard blow. He’s a very important player, our captain, a leader. Obviously, this will weigh, especially for the opposing teams, in their preparation for the games. But we have an exceptional group. Considering the guys we have on the bench, we have the means to replace Kylian. It would be a hard blow, but total confidence in our guys,” he said.
On Tuesday, coach Didier Deschamps had already confirmed that Mbappe will need to undergo surgery, but it is not yet known whether the operation will take place during the Euros or after the competition.
