McLaren P1 becomes a miniature Lego of almost four thousand pieces

The McLaren P1 marked an era in the early 2010s by being one of the “triple crown” cars of hybrid supercars at the time, alongside Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder, as well as being the spiritual successor to the legendary McLaren F1. Now, the model is immortalized by Lego in a miniature of 3,893 pieces.

The 1:8 scale model is part of the Technic collection, known for being the most detailed available for Lego miniatures and for this reason, the Danish brand charges a lot of money. It’s 449 dollars (R$ 2.429) to have the McLaren P1 at home.

The model has an eight-cylinder engine that moves according to the movement of the wheels, gearbox and functional doors, as well as the rear suspension. In addition, the rear spoiler has two positions, just like the car in real life.

“We wanted to capture all the details of the P1 in the best possible way. We worked with many variations of the car to test different designs. The biggest challenge was with the iconic butterfly wing doors, as we needed to make a new mechanism to keep them open,” said Rene Hansen, designer at Lego.
